Troubleshooting
Microwave is not heating
Door Switch
The door switch is a part of the microwave, that prevents the appliance from turning on while the door is open. It is usually located near the door latch. The latch activates the switch when you close the door. To determine whether there is an issue with your switch you need to perform a continuity test using a multimeter.
High Voltage Magnetron
The magnetron is the part of the appliance that uses high voltage to produce the microwave frequency. If this part fails, your appliance will not heat or will not even start. Do not attempt to repair or replace the magnetron on your own. It is a very dangerous and complicated task due to the amount of electricity stored in the capacitor.
Thermal Fuse
The thermal fuse prevents the microwave from overheating by cutting off the power. To determine if it is faulty, check it for continuity using a multimeter. It is quite a cheap part that is very easy to replace. But as we mentioned earlier it could be very dangerous to perform a DIY repair when it comes to the microwave oven.
The problem might be related to the light socket or light bulb itself. Simply replace the light bulb by opening up the securing panel and remove the faulty part. If the light still refuses to work properly, check the socket for its continuity using the multimeter.
If some of the buttons are not working, the problem could be related to the main control board, touchpad or control panel. These parts are not repairable, they always need replacement.
If your appliance shuts down while operating make sure the power outlet is working properly by plugging in another device. Also, the faulty thermoprotector might cause this problem as the microwave is overheating. You need to check if it is blown by testing it for continuity.
If you noticed some sparks inside the microwave, unplug it immediately. The most probable causes are a support rack, waveguide cover or paint. The paint might be chipped causing the microwave to spark or heat. The best decision is to fix all the damaged spots with special microwave paint.
