If your range is on the fritz, you’re probably wondering how much it will cost to repair. The average range repair costs are between $200 and $400, with most people paying around $250. However, the cost of repairs can vary depending on the problem type and the issue’s severity.
Undoubtedly, the range is a significant part of your kitchen. Every year we enjoy cooking delicious meals for our family, especially on holidays. We could not imagine our life without a baked turkey on Thanksgiving or a tasty apple pie at our kids’ birthday party. Moreover, the Range gives us a feeling of home that is very important, especially if you are often busy at work. It is extremely important to keep your range and other kitchen appliance in good condition.

Be sure you unplugged your appliance before attempting any service!

      Troubleshooting

      Surface Element Switch
The surface element switch sends voltage to the surface element coil. When the surface element switch fails, the electrical contacts inside the switch fuse, causing the switch to send continuous voltage to the surface element. If the surface element switch is defective, replace it.
      Coil Surface Element
Sometimes, when the surface element is shorted out, it is visibly damaged. Inspect the surface element for damage. If the element is damaged, replace it. To determine if the element has shorted out, use a multimeter to test the element for continuity. If the coil surface element does not have continuity, replace it.
      Radiant Surface Element
Sometimes, when the surface element is shorted out, it is visibly damaged. Inspect the surface element for damage. If the element is damaged, replace it. To determine if the element has shorted out, use a multimeter to test the element for continuity between the prongs and the case. If the radiant surface element shows continuity between the prongs and the case, this indicates that it is shorted out. If the radiant surface element is shorted out, replace it.
      Solid Surface Element
Sometimes, when the surface element is shorted out, it is visibly damaged. Inspect the surface element for damage. If the element is damaged, replace it. To determine if the element has shorted out, use a multimeter to test the element for continuity. If the solid surface element has continuity from the element connecters to the outside case, this indicates that the surface element is shorted out. If the surface element is shorted out, replace it.
      Spark Ignition Switch
One of the spark ignition switches might be defective. The spark ignition switch sends voltage to the spark module. When the electrical contacts inside the switch close, power flows to the spark module. If the spark ignition switch fails with the electrical contacts closed, the switch will send continuous voltage to the spark module. To determine if any of the spark ignition switches is defective, use a multimeter to test each of the switches for continuity. If a spark ignition switches shows continuity at all settings, replace it.
      Spark Ignition Switch and Harness
One of the spark ignition switches might be defective. The spark ignition switch sends voltage to the spark module. When the electrical contacts inside the switch close, power flows to the spark module. If the switch contacts are wet or stuck in a closed position, the switch will send continuous voltage to the spark module, no matter where the dial is set. Each of the switches can be tested individually to determine if they are shorted. If a spark ignition switch is shorted and is not wet, or if drying it out doesn’t solve the problem, replace the switch.
      Spark Module
The spark module provides power to each surface burner spark electrode. If the spark module fails, it may cause the burners to spark continuously. However, the spark ignition switch is more likely to be at fault. Before replacing the spark module, first test the spark ignition switch. If the spark ignition switch is working properly, consider replacing the spark module.
      Pressure Regulator
A pressure regulator is needed on a gas range to keep the pressure constant. If the pressure regulator is not adjusted properly, or is set for the wrong type of gas, the flames can be too high. This will affect all the burners. If you suspect the regulator is bad or not adjusted properly it is best to have a qualified technician check, adjust, or replace the regulator if needed.
      Burner Component
Some burners have an air shutter to vary the amount of air mixing with the gas. If the air shutter is not adjusted properly (not enough air), you can have a lazy flame that looks too high. It is best to have a professional adjust the air shutter properly.
      Orifice
All orifices are drilled and numbered according to the size of the hole. If the wrong orifice was installed in a burner, the flame can be too high. Make sure the correct orifice is installed in the burner.
      Oven Control Board
The oven control board displays the time, temperature, and settings for the range. If the oven control board has power to it, but the display is dead, missing digits or dim, it will need to be replaced.
      Display Board
If the display board is dead it may not be getting power from the main control board. If there is power to the display board but the display is dead, missing digits or dim, it will need to be replaced.
      Main Control Board
The main control board sends power to the display board to operate. If the display board is not receiving power, the main control board is likely bad and will need to be replaced.
      Fan Blade
The fan blade may be bent or sliding on the shaft and rubbing on the housing. Inspect the fan blade. If the fan blade is bent or damaged it will need to be replaced.
      Fan Motor
The fan motor turns the fan blade to circulate the air. The fan motor is often sold as an assembly. If the fan motor bearings are bad, or the fan blade or blower is damaged, the fan motor will need to be replaced.
      Convection Motor
The convection motor drives the convection fan to circulate the air inside the oven. The convection oven must circulate the air for the oven to heat evenly. If the motor bearings are bad the motor may rattle or the fan may hit the housing. If the convection fan motor shaft wobbles, or the motor is making a loud noise, replace the convection motor.
      Cooling Fan
The cooling fan runs to help keep the range itself, and its critical parts, from overheating. The cooling fan is often sold as an assembly. If the fan is noisy when it runs, the motor bearings, fan blade, or blower wheel may be worn or damaged and will need to be replaced.
