Cooktop repair in Los Angeles covers a wide range of hardware — gas burners, electric coils, glass smooth-tops, and a growing number of induction units showing up in remodeled kitchens across the Westside. We work on all of them. If your cooktop isn’t performing, call (323) 806-3039 and we’ll get a tech out, usually same day or next morning.

Types of Cooktops We Repair

Not all cooktops fail the same way, and the repair approach depends entirely on what type you have.

Gas cooktops are the most common in Beverly Hills and LA broadly. Failures are mostly igniter-related — electrodes, spark modules, burner caps. These are the repairs we do most often and can usually complete in a single visit.

Electric coil cooktops are older technology, still found in rental units and older homes. Coil elements burn out and the infinite switch (the control that adjusts heat level) fails. Both are inexpensive repairs.

Smooth-top electric (glass-ceramic) cooktops fail through cracked glass surfaces, failed radiant elements beneath the glass, and electronic controls. Glass replacement is the most disruptive and expensive repair — the cost depends heavily on the cooktop brand and OEM panel availability.

Induction cooktops are the newest category and have their own distinct failure modes, covered in detail below.

For issues that extend to a built-in oven below your cooktop, see our Oven Repair page. If you have a full range unit, see Range Repair.

Induction Cooktop Repairs

Induction is gaining serious traction in LA, particularly in new construction and kitchen remodels where gas isn’t available or wanted. Thermador, Wolf, Miele, and Bosch all make high-end induction units that show up regularly in upscale kitchens.

Here’s how induction works: the cooktop surface has copper coils beneath the glass. When you place an induction-compatible pan on a zone, the coil creates a magnetic field that generates heat directly in the pan’s base — the cooktop itself stays relatively cool. No open flame, faster heat-up than electric, very precise control.

How induction cooktops fail:

  • Power board failure: The boards that drive the induction coils are the most common failure point. Surges, overheating, and manufacturing defects can kill a board. Symptoms include a zone that won’t activate, error codes on the display, or the cooktop shutting off unexpectedly.
  • Touch control panel failure: Glass touch controls can become unresponsive due to moisture ingress, cracked glass, or failed control electronics underneath.
  • Flex zone issues: Many premium induction cooktops feature flex zones that can be configured as one large element or split into two smaller ones. The bridge circuitry for these zones is more complex and can fail independently.
  • Cooling fan failure: Induction cooktops have internal fans to cool the electronics. A failed fan leads to thermal shutdowns — the cooktop works for a few minutes then shuts off.

Induction repairs require the correct diagnostic software for some brands and OEM parts — aftermarket boards are frequently incompatible.

Gas Cooktop Igniter Problems

The igniter system is the most common failure point on gas cooktops, and it’s almost always one of three things.

Food debris in burner ports: The most frequent cause of a burner that won’t light or lights unevenly. The small holes around the burner head get clogged with boilover residue, grease, and food particles. Sometimes cleaning with a toothpick — carefully, without enlarging the holes — is enough. But if debris has built up over years or gotten into the burner body itself, it needs professional cleaning.

Cracked igniter electrode: The ceramic electrode that produces the spark is brittle. A hard impact from a dropped pan, or thermal cycling over many years, can crack it. A cracked electrode won’t spark reliably, or will arc to the wrong place. You’ll see the spark but the burner won’t light, or it lights only sometimes.

Spark module failure: The spark module is the electronic box (usually located under the cooktop) that receives the signal from the control knob switch and fires the igniters. A failed module might cause no clicking at all, clicking on the wrong burners, or constant clicking that won’t stop. Module replacement fixes all burners at once since they typically share one module.

Beverly Hills kitchens with high-end Wolf or Thermador cooktops have proprietary igniter components — we stock the most common ones so we’re not waiting on parts orders.

Cooktop Repair Cost in Los Angeles

Our $85 diagnostic/service fee is applied toward your approved repair.

All prices below are approximate labor starting points only. Parts, tax, and additional components are not included and are quoted separately after diagnosis.

  • Gas igniter electrode replacement: labor from $120 per burner (part cost additional)
  • Spark module replacement: labor from $140 (part cost additional)
  • Electric coil element replacement: labor from $80 (part cost additional)
  • Smooth-top radiant element: labor from $180 (part cost additional)
  • Glass cooktop surface replacement: labor from $300 (part cost highly variable — often $400–$1,000+ by brand)
  • Induction power board replacement: labor from $300 (part cost varies significantly by brand)

Luxury brand repairs (Wolf, Thermador, Miele) require OEM parts that can cost 2–4× more than standard equivalents. We’ll give you a written estimate before any work starts. All repairs include our 30-day labor / 90-day parts warranty.

Cooktop Safety Tips

Gas smell at the cooktop: If you smell gas, don’t try to diagnose it yourself. Leave the house, call SoCalGas at 1-800-427-2200 from outside, and then call us. A loose connection at the supply valve or a worn valve stem can cause slow leaks that aren’t immediately obvious.

Constant clicking: A burner that clicks continuously — even when off — almost always has moisture in the igniter switch. It’s annoying and draining power, but more importantly it can damage the igniter electrode over time. Wipe down around the burner and let it fully dry; if it continues, the switch needs replacement.

Cracked glass cooktop: Don’t cook on a cracked glass surface. Cracks spread under thermal stress, and a cooktop that shatters while you’re cooking is a serious burn and laceration hazard. If you’ve got a crack, take that burner zone out of service until it’s repaired.

Burner flames burning orange or yellow: Gas flames should burn blue. Yellow or orange color indicates incomplete combustion — usually a dirty burner or improper air-to-gas mixture. Long-term, incomplete combustion produces more carbon monoxide than a properly tuned burner. Worth having looked at.

Cooktop Repair FAQs

Can you repair induction cooktops?

Yes. We repair gas, electric coil, electric smooth-top, and induction cooktops from all major brands. Induction repairs often involve the control board or power module.

My gas cooktop burner flame is yellow. Is that dangerous?

A yellow or orange flame on a gas burner indicates incomplete combustion, which can produce carbon monoxide. Stop using that burner and call us for service. It's usually a clogged burner port or gas pressure issue.

Can a cracked glass cooktop be repaired?

Cracked glass cooktops should be replaced rather than repaired for safety reasons. We can source and install a replacement glass for your specific model. Do not use a cracked cooktop — it poses an electrical and injury risk.

What cooktop brands do you repair?

We repair all brands: Wolf, Thermador, Viking, Bosch, Miele, GE, KitchenAid, Samsung, LG, Whirlpool, Frigidaire, and more.

How long does cooktop repair take?

Most cooktop repairs are done in 1–2 hours. If a part needs to be ordered, we'll schedule a follow-up visit — usually within 2–3 business days.

What warranty do you provide on repairs?

We provide a 30-day warranty on all labor and a 90-day warranty on all parts we install.

Are parts included in the listed prices?

No. Listed prices are labor starting prices only. Parts, tax, shipping, and additional components are not included. A written parts-and-labor estimate is provided after diagnosis and before repair.

Do luxury cooktop brands like Wolf or Thermador cost more to repair?

Yes. Luxury and built-in cooktop repairs (Wolf, Thermador, Miele, Gaggenau) require OEM parts and additional labor. Final pricing is confirmed after diagnosis.
