Dishwasher repair in Los Angeles is something we do every single day — and the range of machines we encounter reflects how varied the housing stock is here. Basic Whirlpool and GE units in rental properties, KitchenAid and Samsung in newer construction, and a high concentration of Bosch and Miele in the upscale homes and condos around Beverly Hills, Bel Air, and the Westside. Each brand has its own failure patterns, and we know them well.

The $85 diagnostic fee covers the visit and full inspection. If you approve the repair, it’s applied toward the total cost.

Common Dishwasher Problems We Fix

Dishes Not Getting Clean

This is the most common complaint, and it’s rarely the wash arms or motor. Nine times out of ten it’s a clogged filter. Modern dishwashers (especially European brands) don’t have a self-cleaning grinder — they rely on a fine mesh filter at the bottom of the tub that traps food debris. When it clogs, water can’t circulate properly and dishes come out greasy or filmed. The fix starts with cleaning the filter, but we also check water temperature at the inlet (should be at least 120°F), spray arm rotation, and detergent dispenser function.

Not Draining

Water sitting at the bottom after a cycle usually means a clogged or failed drain pump, a blocked drain hose, or a kinked hose where it connects to the garbage disposal or standpipe. We check all three. On Bosch units, the drain pump is a frequent failure point and the part is well-sourced — it’s usually a same-day repair.

Leaking

Leaks can come from several places: the door gasket (most common), the water inlet valve, a cracked pump housing, or a failed float switch that lets the tub overfill. We isolate the source before quoting the repair. A door gasket replacement is straightforward; a pump housing crack on an older unit might mean the repair isn’t worth doing.

Door Latch and Control Issues

A broken door latch means the dishwasher won’t start at all — most units won’t run unless the door switch confirms it’s properly closed. Latch assemblies are inexpensive and usually swapped out in under an hour. Control board failures are less common but do happen, particularly on older Samsung units where the board is exposed to steam over time.

Not Filling With Water

The inlet valve is a solenoid-controlled valve that opens to let water in. When the solenoid fails or the screen inside clogs with sediment (common in LA, which has moderately hard water), the dishwasher runs through a full cycle with little or no water. Dishes come out dirty and the detergent pod is still sitting intact in the dispenser.

Why Bosch and Miele Dishwashers Need Specialist Service

Bosch and Miele are the dominant premium dishwasher brands in Beverly Hills and surrounding areas, and they’re genuinely different animals from a standard American dishwasher.

Bosch uses a condensation drying system instead of a heating element — it dries dishes by using the residual heat in the stainless tub and a base that contains a zeolite mineral (on higher-end models) that absorbs moisture. Diagnosing heating issues requires understanding this system, not looking for a heating element that isn’t there. Bosch also uses a very different pump and motor configuration — a single integrated unit that handles both wash and drain functions, which means fewer parts but a more involved replacement if it fails.

Miele runs on a proprietary control architecture. Error codes are specific to the model range and aren’t always accessible without Miele’s diagnostic interface. The circulation pump, dosing system (for automatic detergent dispensing), and softener unit all communicate through the main board in ways that require knowing the platform. Miele parts are genuine-only — aftermarket substitutes exist but frequently cause new error codes or reduced performance. We stock the most common Miele dishwasher parts and order genuine replacements when needed.

Both brands are worth repairing properly. A Bosch 800 Series or Miele G 7000 is a $1,200–$2,000+ appliance. A proper repair from a technician who knows the platform makes far more sense than replacing it with something inferior.

Dishwasher Repair vs. Replacement

The 50% rule applies here as well: if the repair cost exceeds half the replacement cost of a comparable unit, replacement often makes more financial sense. But there are nuances.

For standard mid-range dishwashers (GE, Whirlpool, Samsung), a repair exceeding half the replacement value on a 10-year-old unit is borderline — these machines weren’t built to last 15 years and parts availability thins out. For Bosch and Miele, the math is different. These machines are designed to run 20 years with proper service, and the parts supply is robust. We’ve done drum seal replacements on 12-year-old Miele dishwashers that ran perfectly for another 8 years afterward.

We’ll give you an honest opinion after the diagnostic. We’re not interested in doing a repair that doesn’t make sense — it wastes your money and we’d rather send you in the right direction.

Dishwasher Repair Cost in Los Angeles

All prices below are approximate labor starting points only. Parts, tax, and additional components are not included and are quoted separately after diagnosis.

  • Diagnostic visit: $85 (applied to repair when approved)
  • Filter cleaning and service: included in diagnostic
  • Drain pump replacement: labor from $150 (part cost varies by brand)
  • Water inlet valve: labor from $130 (part cost additional)

Bosch parts are well-priced and available quickly. Miele parts occasionally require a few extra days for sourcing but are worth waiting for — genuine parts only.

Dishwasher Maintenance Tips

A few things that actually make a difference:

Clean the filter monthly. Twist out the cylindrical filter at the bottom of the tub, rinse it under warm water, and use a soft brush on the fine mesh screen. Takes three minutes. Neglecting it is the single biggest cause of poor wash performance.

Run hot water at the kitchen sink before starting a cycle. Your dishwasher fills with whatever temperature water is sitting in the supply line. In a large home, that could be lukewarm water from 40 feet of pipe. Running the sink tap hot for 30 seconds ensures the dishwasher fills with properly heated water from the first minute of the cycle — better cleaning, better dissolving of detergent.

Check the door gasket every few months. Run your fingers along the full perimeter of the door gasket and feel for cracks, tears, or sections that have pulled away from the channel. A small crack causes a slow drip that you might not notice until it’s warped the cabinet base below. Door gaskets are inexpensive; water damage to cabinetry is not.

Use rinse aid consistently. This is especially true in LA with our moderately hard water. Rinse aid dramatically reduces water spots on glasses and helps the condensation drying system (on Bosch units) work as intended.
