Dryer repair in Los Angeles has one variable you don’t deal with as much in other cities: the sheer variety of living situations. You’ve got gas dryers in older Glendale bungalows, electric units in the new Santa Monica high-rises that never got gas lines run to the laundry closet, and stackable combos in rental apartments throughout Los Angeles that get used hard and maintained rarely. We work on all of it.
The $85 diagnostic fee gets applied to your repair when you approve the work. Most dryer repairs are done in a single visit.
Gas vs. Electric Dryer Repairs
The symptom can look the same — dryer runs but produces no heat — but the diagnosis and repair are completely different depending on fuel type. Knowing which you’re dealing with upfront saves time.
Gas Dryer Repairs
A gas dryer produces heat through a burner assembly. The igniter glows orange to light the gas, the radiant sensor detects the flame and holds the gas valve open, and the coils (solenoid valves) control gas flow. The most common gas dryer failure we see is a cracked or weak igniter. It glows, but not hot enough to light the gas reliably — so the dryer starts, the igniter cycles, nothing lights, and the machine just tumbles cold. The thermal fuse can also blow if the vent is restricted, cutting power to the igniter circuit entirely.
Gas igniter replacements are straightforward — usually under two hours including diagnostic. Valve coil sets are slightly more involved but still a same-day job.
Electric Dryer Repairs
Electric dryers use a heating element — a coiled resistance wire that heats the air passing over it. When it breaks (and it eventually breaks — it’s like a giant light bulb filament), you get zero heat. We test the element with a multimeter. An open circuit confirms the failure. We also check the thermal fuse, high-limit thermostat, and cycling thermostat, because if the element burned out from overheating, one of those is often the root cause.
Electric dryer heating element replacements are one of the more predictable repairs in our business — common parts, clear failure mode, reasonable cost.
Why Your Dryer Stopped Heating
No-heat is the most common dryer complaint we get. Here’s what actually causes it, in plain terms:
Heating element (electric dryers): The coiled wire inside the element housing breaks, opening the circuit. The dryer runs fine — drum turns, timer advances — but no heat. We always replace the thermostat(s) that likely caused the overheat at the same time — skipping that step leads to repeat failures.
Thermal fuse (gas and electric): A one-shot safety device that blows permanently when the dryer hits dangerously high temperatures. Once it blows, it’s blown — no resetting it. The fuse itself is cheap, but if we replace it without finding why it blew (almost always a restricted vent), it’ll blow again within weeks.
Gas valve solenoid coils: The gas valve has two or three coil sets that must all work in tandem to open the valve and allow gas to flow. When one coil fails, the valve stays closed and you get no flame. The coils are replaced as a set.
Gas igniter: Igniters weaken over time. A weak igniter draws insufficient current to open the radiant sensor, so the gas valve never opens. The symptom is a dryer that starts, you see the igniter glow briefly, and then nothing — just cold tumbling.
Fire Hazard Warning: Lint and Venting
This is the section most people skip, and it’s the most important thing on this page.
Clogged dryer vents cause roughly 15,000 house fires per year in the US. In Los Angeles specifically, we see a lot of older apartment buildings and homes where the original vent run was never designed for a modern high-capacity dryer. Vent runs that are too long, have too many 90-degree bends, or use corrugated flexible duct (which catches lint like velcro) restrict airflow severely.
When airflow is restricted, the dryer runs hotter than it should. The thermal fuse blows. The heating element burns out prematurely. And in worst-case scenarios, accumulated lint in the duct ignites.
Signs your vent needs cleaning or inspection:
- Clothes taking two or more cycles to fully dry
- Dryer exterior feels unusually hot during a cycle
- Lint accumulating around the outside vent flap
- Musty or hot smell in the laundry area
We check the vent path as part of every dryer diagnostic. If the duct needs cleaning or the run is too long and restricted, we’ll tell you. For homes in Santa Monica and Malibu, salt air accelerates corrosion on metal vent ducts — we see collapsed sections in beach-adjacent buildings more often than you’d think.

Stackable Dryer Repairs
A large portion of dryer calls we get in LA are for stacked laundry units — a dryer sitting on top of a washer in a closet or utility alcove. These are common in apartments throughout West Hollywood, Koreatown, Silver Lake, and anywhere else space is tight.
The challenge with stackable dryers is access. Getting to the back panel, the heating element, or the drum bearing in a stacked configuration often means unstacking the units — which takes time and sometimes requires clearing out whatever is stored around them. We factor this into our quotes upfront so there are no surprises.
The most common stackable dryer brands we work on are Whirlpool, LG, and Samsung. LG WashTower units (where the washer and dryer are a single integrated unit) require some additional knowledge because the drum access is different from a conventional stacked pair.

Dryer Repair FAQs
Why is my dryer not heating?
The most common causes are a blown thermal fuse, a faulty heating element (electric dryers), a failed gas igniter or valve (gas dryers), or a clogged exhaust vent. Our technicians will diagnose the exact cause and fix it on the spot.
Is it safe to use a dryer that smells like burning?
No — stop using it immediately. A burning smell could indicate lint buildup near the heating element, a faulty motor, or worn drum seals. This is a fire hazard. Call us for same-day service.
Do you repair gas and electric dryers?
Yes, we repair both gas and electric dryers across all brands. Our technicians are trained and equipped for both fuel types.
How long does dryer repair take?
Most dryer repairs are completed in a single visit of 1–2 hours. We stock common parts on our trucks, so we often resolve the issue the same day you call.
What dryer brands do you service?
We service all major brands: Whirlpool, LG, Samsung, GE, Maytag, Speed Queen, Electrolux, Kenmore, Bosch, Miele, and more.
What warranty do you provide on repairs?
We provide a 30-day warranty on all labor and a 90-day warranty on all parts we install.
Are parts included in the listed prices?
No. Listed prices are labor starting prices only. Parts, tax, shipping, and additional components are not included. A written parts-and-labor estimate is provided after diagnosis and before repair.
